Spring break trip March 16, 2007

It’s a been a crazy week of twists and turns, with excitement around every corner. Each year, the CSC goes on a spring-break mission trip. This one was a little different. Todd had done his best looking for places that might need help. Unfortunately, they all either didn’t need us, needed skilled workers, or never called back. Finally, Todd gave in to the idea that maybe we should just get in a van, pick a direction, and look for people to help. Well… that ended up being our mission trip.

Things started out slow, since we had no idea what we were doing. Saturday, most things were closed, but stuff started happening on Sunday. We arrived at the Providence Road Church of Christ for worship (please note the name of the road: God has a sense of humor, methinks) in Charlotte, NC. As it turned out, they were at the last week of a series of lessons about, wait for it, getting out of your comfort zone and helping people. Of course, the church was in awe of seeing not one, but eight living embodiments of their study sitting with them. We found one member of the congregation who was in need of some yard work, so we decided we may as well take care of it. After helping her out, we got back in the van and headed for our next destination.

Monday, we arrived in Savannah, GA. The local mission there was about to paint, so they needed the walls washed. During our work their, we met the cast of characters that ran the mission, each with amazing stories and distinct mannerisms (Long Introductions Lady, Honeybun Guy, etc). With the work done, we moved on to our next destination.

We took Tuesday off. At Disney World. And went on Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Haunted Mansion, the Hall of Presidents, Space Mountain (twice), the Carousel of Progress, and a bunch more. 😛

Wednesday, we found ourselves in the town of Enterprise, AL. Turns out that a tornado had just come through about two weeks back. We found the volunteer center and got to work. We ended up spending two days there, since they had lots they needed done.

Of course more went on, but I can’t list everything. I will mention that we stopped to help anyone stranded by the side of the road, which has a funny story behind it involving a tire that wouldn’t come of the axle… but I’ll save it for later.

Cool… sounds like God really used ya’ll. Did Jeff Walling say anything to ya’ll about being the embodiments of the lesson?
